China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) has published the final revised version of the Inventory of Existing Cosmetic Ingredients in China (IECIC).
Details of the changes, described in a previous post, were formalized to coincide with the introduction of the new registration/notification procedure commencing May 1, 2021.
The formal issue lists 8972 ingredients, includes some changes in prohibitions, restrictions, ingredient names and established historical levels of use of ingredients. This is intended to help provide background for abridged safety assessments, as long as ingredient levels fall within the upper limit.
As of May 1, 2021, any ingredient not on the list will be considered a new ingredient and need to follow the Provisions for Management of New Cosmetic Ingredient Registration and Notification Dossiers.
