The third and final phase of Oregon’s Toxic Free Kids program has taken effect, starting March 1st. The final rule follows many of the proposals the Oregon Health Authority issued in late June.
Most manufacturers will have until January 1, 2022 to phase out use of any of the 68 High Priority Chemicals of Concern for Children’s Health (HPCCCHs) from products in the following three categories, unless they receive a waiver or exemption:
- children’s cosmetics
- “mouthable” products, defined as a children’s product or any part of a children’s product that is intended to be placed in the mouth for any purpose
- products made for or marketed to children younger than three years old
