China’s drug regulator, National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), has officially banned the use of cannabidiol (CBD), a compound found in the cannabis plant, from use in cosmetics.
The move finalizes a draft proposed earlier this year. Cannabis sativa fruit, cannabis sativa seed oil and cannabis sativa leaf extract are also banned.
The ban was made official when the NMPA published its “List of Prohibited Use Cosmetic Ingredients” and “List of Prohibited Plant (Animal) Raw Materials for Cosmetics”.
The new ban means that cosmetics companies cannot produce or import products containing the banned substances.
